Nagarjuna Staring ‘Wild Dog’ Streams On Netflix

The veteran actor Nagarjuna is all set to walk the OTT platform today with the release of his movie ‘Wild Dog’ under the Matinee Entertainment banner. The movie also casts Saiyami Kher in the lead role along with Dia Mirza, Atul Kulkarni, Ali Reza, Appaji Ambarish Dharbha and Avijit Dutt.

The official announcement was made in 2019 when things were normal. Thus began the shooting of the film that continued for 20 days straight in Hyderabad and Goa. The shooting was also scheduled to take place in Thailand. Around 70 % of the shoots were completed before February 2020 which was definitely a relief because the country went for a complete lockdown in the month of March 2020 due to the COVID 19 situation. The production house resumed its schedules from September 2020. With some critical shots taken in Leh, Manali and Jammu, the film wrapped up in November 2020.

The production house previously thought of releasing the movie on the OTT platform, which was not at all supported by Nagarjuna. He believes that his audience finds his movie enthralling when it gets released in theatres. In addition, the movie is not meant to be watched on a small screen. The action sequences demand a big screen to offer satisfactory time to the viewers.

With the withdrawal of the digital deal made by Matine Entertainment with Netflix, the film went for a theatrical release on 2nd April 2021. The production house also decided to launch the movie on Netflix on 22nd April 2021. It is a Telugu movie that is available in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam dub.

Wild Dog is a real-life story, with a screenplay by Shishor Solomon and dialogues by Kiran Kumar. The movie is produced by S. Niranjan Reddy and K. Anvesh Reddy under the brilliant cinematography by Shaniel Deo edited and presented to the audience in a run time of 129 minutes.

The story centres around the terrorist activities in India that took place in Gokul Chaat Bhandar in 2007 in Hyderabad. The story is about investigating Khalid the terrorist mastermind on whom Vijay Verma the NIA(National Investigation Officer) and Wild Dog conducts a court operation.

The movie received mixed opinions. Many felt that it is not that up to the mark while many  immensely enjoyed the action thriller. Neeshitha Nayapati from Times of India reviewed the movie with ⅗ stars and added ‘Wild Dog is a simple story that doesn’t veer much beyond the tale of a team looking to nab a terrorist. Ahishor Solomon must be lauded for attempting to make an action film that’s devoid of any commercial elements.’

Hemant Kumar from FirstPost stated ‘Despite its packaging and pace, Wild Dog presents an overwhelming sense of familiarity in terms of characters and their motivations, leaving not much room for surprises.’ giving 3  stars out of 5 to the movie.

Sangeeth Devi comments `The film benefits from its able technical crew and special mentions are due to action director David Ismalone, cinematographer Shaneil Deo and Thaman for his background score.’ giving it  ⅗ stars.

Before Wild Dog, we saw Nagarjuna in Manmadhudu 2(official remake of I Do, a French movie) co-starring Rakul Preet which is the direct sequel to his movie Manmadhudhu.

Nagarjuna is currently working on projects such as ‘Brahmastra’ that stars Amitabh Bacchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy. His other venture is under Parveen Sattari’s direction with co-star Kajal Aggarwal .
