Sitaram Yechury announced the death of his son Ashish Yechury in a tweet earlier today.
“It is with great sadness that I have to inform that I lost my elder son Ashish Yechury to Covid-19 this morning. I want to thank all those who gave us hope and who treated him – doctors, nurses, frontline health workers, sanitation workers and innumerable others who stood by us,”
Ashis Yechury the alumna of Asian College of Journalism Chennai left the world at 5.30 am on 22nd April 2021 after enduring the battle with COVID 19 for two weeks. The infectious disease spread to his lungs that made his way to the ICU on 12th April 2021 where he struggled with life and death situations.
He was previously admitted to Holy Family hospital but was shifted to Gurgaon Medanta hospital where he was showing slow recovery. His death came as a shock to the nation. The depressing part of the news is that he would have turned 35 this June.
His demise stirred the nation’s political platform. The family is receiving political condolences from the morning that includes, our president Mr Ram Nath Kovind, the Vice President Mr M Venkaiah Naidu and our PM Narendra Modi.
Modi tweeted ‘Condolences to Shri Sitaram Yechury Ji and his family on the tragic and untimely demise of his son Ashish. Om Shanti.’
Shashi Tharoor commented on this shocking news ‘There is no greater loss for a parent to endure. May you find the strength to bear the inexpressible grief of your loss. My heart goes out to you at this painful time.’
West Bengal CM tweeted ‘Shocked and very saddened to hear about the untimely passing away of Ashish, son of @SitaramYechury Ji. My deepest condolences to the grieving family.’
On this uneventful incident, Kerala CM along with fellow comrade Pinarai Vijayan stated ‘Dear comrade Sitaram Yechury, our deepest condolences on the loss of Ashish. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.’
Our honourable president also took the opportunity in showing his deepest condolences to the saddened family. He said ‘In this moment of profound grief, my deepest condolences to Shri Sitaram Yechury, his family and loved ones. May you find the strength to bear this irreparable loss’
In this regard, our Vice President also tweeted. He wrote ‘Deeply shocked and anguished by the untimely passing away of Ashish Yechury, son of Shri Sitaram Yechury due to Covid-19. My heartfelt condolences to Shri Sitaram Yechury and all other family members in this hour of grief. Om Shanthi,’
Ashish who worked as a proficient journalist left the world with an astonishing death. His death should set an alarm to the current COVID 19 situation. People are going careless in following the required measures to prevent the spread of this deadly disease. Also, the situation in Kolkata turned grave on Tuesday due to the lack of oxygen cylinders in hospitals that resulted in the death of several patients. Hence to check the uproaring situation of the pandemic era, people should consider taking immediate measurements.
Ashish showed a slow recovery however could not make it home, well and sound. This left Sitaram Yechury to follow the Last rites for his son which is definitely not a pleasure for a father. He showed his respect towards the grieving comrades and added ‘I thank all of you who have shared our sorrow. I thank everybody who gave us the strength to be able to face this dark hour. I know that I am not alone in my grief, with this pandemic consuming countless lives,’
The Polit Bureau of CPI(M) also expressed their grief ‘We convey deepest condolences to Sitaram and Indrani, his wife Swati, his sister Akhila and all other members of the bereaved family.’
