Google Doodle is known for celebrating and showcasing what’s trendy or what’s important is going on that specific day and today the Doodle celebrates the 94th birth anniversary of pioneering fertility scientist Anne McLaren.

Today Google through its Doodle is celebrating the 94th birthday of the British life scientist Dame Anne McLaren

Dame Anne’s most notable work was to determine human in vitro fertilisation (IVF) – an accomplishment that has allowed thousands of individuals round the globe to turn their dream of having a baby true.

In 1958 she published a paper on her various attempts that successfully turned out to develop mouse embryos in vitro – showing that it is totally attainable to form healthy embryos outside of a female internal reproductive organ called Womb.

The paper has been defined as “one of the most significant papers in the history of reproductive biology and medicine”.

It was not till the late Nineteen Seventies that scientists began using IVF with humans. The procedure was at first very ethically debatable, and Dame Anne was appointed as the solely research scientist on the Warnock Committee, a governmental body dedicated to the making of policies associated with the advances in IVF technology and biological science.

Her professional council played a vital role within the enactment of the 1990 Human Fertilisation and embryology Act – the legislation that limits in-vitro culture of human embryos to 14-days post embryo

In 1991, she became the first lady to ever hold workplace within the Royal Society – the World’s oldest Scientific Organization. In 1994, the British Association for the Advancement of Science – an organization dedicated to the promotion of science to the general public now referred as the British Science Association – elected her as its president.

Dame Anne died in 2007 at the age of 80, once she and her ex-husband Donald Michie were killed in a road accident.

The tribute to the lady is really something everyone should be aware of and her works are something everyone should feel proud of.
